Flood Control

Sen. Franken is well aware of the problems that melting snow poses on river valley communities throughout Minnesota. The past few years have presented Minnesota with increasing challenges as the flood waters continue to rise. The best ways communities can combat flood damage is to be pro-active with flood mitigation efforts. Sen. Franken has toured the Red River and Minnesota River valleys viewing various mitigation efforts, and has also filled his share of sandbags. He was integral in securing $20 million in funding for design and initial construction of a permanent flood diversion project in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He is committed to working with local communities as they decide on flood control plans, and wants to ensure that the impacts on downstream communities are mitigated through investments in water retention and storage. He will continue to make sure the federal government is there to support Minnesotans when they need help the most.
